Sister

My sister if only you knew

how long I waited for you.

If you knew how I wept

the day you were born,

because then I knew

I wasn’t alone,

you’d be moved to tears.

If you knew how much I sacrificed

and how I survived for you.

My sister if you knew

how much I adore you,

you wouldn’t dare look down

on the person you’ve become.

You would learn from me

and all my mistakes.

You will be better than me

and that’s all I ask of you.

Don’t let my sacrifice be in vain.

Remind me of why I stayed.

Be everything I couldn’t

and always stay true to you.

But even if you don’t soar,

even if you don’t succeed,

you’re still better off than me.

And for that I am glad.

My sister if only you knew,

my whole world is you,

and without you, it’s empty.

So please hold on and take my word:

things do get better

and good things take time.

So be patient with life

and stay by my side.
