Pray the Devil Away

Praying at your wicked altar.

Lord please cast away my sins.

Doing all the right things

to make my guilt go away.

But I’m only human:

I crack under pressure

and everyone else seems to have it together.

I prayed to keep the devil away

but he got in,

and now they say I am defined by sin.

Unredeemable and cast aside in shame.

Unaware that they’ve taken the lords name in vain.

I may not be perfect,

but at least I don’t cast stones.

At least I learned to love others

just like he told.

And you can stay worshipping your idols,

fighting an imaginary war,

but I’ll keep praying.

I believe that in the end

when you’re covered in holy light,

you’ll see your ignorance

has taken eternal bliss.

The devil may be in me,

but you’re the one who walks with him.
