If You Need To Leave (A Poem) (Copy)

You once held me tightly.

now your grip is looser.

You said you saw a life with me,

you saw us getting older.

But now your gaze has hardened

and your embrace feels colder

and I’m struggling to find the words

to ask you if it’s over.

If you wanted to leave,

I think I’d understand.

I never really did believe

anyone could love me like that

and I appreciate you for trying

and for giving me the best you had.

I never did understand

why you wanted me hand.

I promise I’ll get better.

It may take some time.

but that’s part of getting older.

You can take my heart with you,

I gave it away for a reason.

And I don’t want it back

if it means losing a part of you.
